I recently bought a 2001 V70 XC but the guy I bought it from had only one key and no key fob. I've called the local Volvo dealer to replace the key and get a key fob and was pretty floored by the expense. As I recall, the key was $66, + $40-something for the software to program it, plus $200 for the fob + an hour or a half or more labor. That's something like $450 for a key and a clicker.
Hell, my first Volvo cost me less than half of that!
I'm about ready to dismiss the idea of a key fob, but $200 or more dollars just for a key? Are there no alternative to this?
Thanks.

You can buy the blanks from http://www.tascaparts.com and save a bunch, but you're still stuck with labor and buying software for each piece you buy and want to mate to the car, (dealer only).
Also, Volvo in their infinite wisdom has raised their prices on software!!
