Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Hopefully it hasn't dropped a valve and locked up. Before going any farther, and risk serious damage, you may want to put a socket on the damper pulley bolt and see if you can turn the crank in both directions.

Hey Chris, I am havinbg an issue getting my habnd down close enough to the bolt to get my socket on it.. I am thinking reaching it from under neath, but would like some guidance if you or anybody has any. I can not get my hand down the left side. there seems to be minor clearance between the engine and the wall.. argh!!! frustrated.. thanks for any help

OK an update, I just pulled the starter out of the car and bench tested it and it passed with flying colors. I was able to hook up a battery to it and the solenoid engaged and the wheel popped out and spun at a high rate of speed.. sound like something in the engine.. need to try to manually turn it over.. any other ideas.. thanks

might still be a starter issue, but yes, next step is to turn the motor over by hand. Pull the spark plugs to make it a little easier to be smooth in doing so.
