I hate that! I open the hood for inspection, repairs, and maintenance. I don't open it for looks. Why would I pay money to make upkeep more difficult? I used to own a 1994 Nissan Altima and it was reliable and easy to work on. The 2008 Nissan Altima is just as reliable, but a nightmare to work on in comparison! I should add that those nifty engine covers also keep lots of fingers and hands intact. There's that old ugly thing called "Product Liability" and the tort/negligence lawyers love it when someone gets a finger/hand into a fan, or belt, or scalding coolant. At least the manufacturer can say "We really TRIED to keep them safe...".
