Re: Idle Air control valve

Post by Raycharles90 »

So I haven't had a chance to put the car through the drive cycle. In fact I have only gone around town. Perhaps I need to go out and get it up to speed but, I am still having some trouble in the idle. Pull up to a parking spot and instead of idling around 900 it just keeps dropping down. I jumped out and wiggled the wiring on the IAC and it popped back up. Is this just a connection issue? Can I grab a new connector/harness? In hindsight I should have pulled the wiring off the junker while I was out there.

Or could the problem be with the relays on the fan shroud? I have heard some people mention those as an issue.

Hi everybody, cant find the IAC valve on a naturally aspirated S60 2001. Feel like a jackass.
I have looked at the images on the net, etc and looked for pipework to a gadget from before and after the throttle body. Closest I get is a gadget labelled PIERBURG >PA6 GF30 <8. According to googling that its a turbo boost control, but this is a naturally aspirated 5 cyl motor? So now confused.
Reason for this exercise is as you guessed, hunting at idle, and need to clean/and/or electrically check.
Can anyone advise please?

Are you sure your car is NA? Not assuming anything, but go look at your engine bay. If it's a turbo, then you will have a large black pipe running from the front of your engine bay to the back on the right side as you look from the front. Easier than that, look at the badging on the back. If there is a "T" back there, it's a turbo.

You don't have one.

Once you have electronic throttle body ( very late 1998 on) , the ETB takes over this function.

Quick check with hood up
If you don't have a distributor and spark plug wires you won't have an IaC.

Thank you for the quick feedback.

Yes it is nat aspirated. know my way round the engine bay pretty much [except for the IAC issue].

Ah- so, the ETB takes over the function , OK. Prior to this the S60 had the usual limp home issue and we sorted by getting an exchange Xemodex from Canada, pre-programmed for the VIN. All worked well, and this problem occurred later. So it looks like a trip to the computer check and tune up.

Volvos are pretty much orphans in Darwin, with generic owner frustration generally at dealer approach, lack of expertise and cost. Having an S80 as well as son's S60 need to develop self reliance as much as possible.

Thanks again for expertise

Apologies for not correctly reading your post, shipsdoctor. It said you searched the net and found the tcv, not your engine. Foot firmly planted in mouth.
