I don't know, it doesn't bother me one way or another whether someone wants to keep the covers.

I think I'm "old school" though. I'd rather see the engine than a piece of plastic. To me, there is beauty in the way something is engineered and built and I hate to see that covered up.

When we brought the wife's brand new van home, I'll bet it wasn't here for 10 minutes before the engine covers were removed. Still have them sitting in the cellar and I'll replace them when we get rid of it. I'd rather look at that DOHC V-6 than a cheap piece of plastic telling me that it's a MAZDA (but in reality is a FORD) engine.

Don't want to sound really dumb, but why are your covers different from the '00? Mine is three pieces and doesn't say 20 VALVE. Yours are cooler than mine.

The head changed in mid-99 to VVT. Different covers.
