I pulled this out of 2000 V70. Based on what I've read the bolsters were removed after 99. Small little upgrade but great for the little stuff. It's pretty deep too.

This is an old topic, but I recently did this repair/upgrade:

Swapping a '99-00' cubby hole panel into a 98.

It is almost a direct swap; first, the knee bolster needs to be removed (perm delete) . Next, if you try to attach your donor panel into your 98, the top mounting stud for the bolster, (top right stud, when sitting in passengers seat, used ) gets in the way of your new cubby shelf. How I solved this problem is to take a dremel tool and cut out enough plastic from the new cubby hole panel to make it fit. (i thought about cutting stud off but it might still be to short) It is possible but takes some patience. Worth the upgrade. pictures to follow

Just bought this 99 S70 and replaced the heater core. Sitting in the car now trying to see if it works and doesn't leak. No knee bolster here either. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

You don't have the metal knee bolster in the 99-00 cars, but you should have a hard foam insert below the steering wheel above your knees.

There's quite a difference in safety stuff between EU and US markets.

On SWMBOs BMW, the EU model get a hard dash with lots of cool cubbies because the Germans think if you don't wear your belt you deserve to get banged up on a hard dash. Here we have to coddle to the world beaters who think seat belts give them gas so we get big pillow dashes and lose all the cool storage stashed.
