I bought a cheap (I think $27 on Amazon) powered converter and installed on my 2004 V70R and it works fine with no messages. You have to use a powered one so the taillight, turn, and brake wires in car do not power the lights. Those wires only signal the converter to close circuit between power feed and the wires to trailer lights.
