Instarx, no problem. MVS will be here next time you need tires :-).

Under $300 for decent tires is just plain inexpensive.

I got 40k from far more expensive Goodyear TripleTreds.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

I called Tire Rack up and they gave me a $20 refund! $274 for four. Cool.

Potholes and bad roads need to be accounted for too although I am pretty careful when running lower-profile tires. The Ecsta tires look pretty good for the money.
Bump the first number to 215. So get 215-45/17.

I've had good luck with General Altimax HPs and they aren't particularly expensive. I thought the Generals were much better than the Michelin MXV4s I had previously and they were substantially cheaper.

What was it about the MXV4s you didn't like? Or how are the Generals better.

i bought Kumho Ecsta ASX tires for my old maxima a few years back. i was pleased enough with the tires for the price, but i sold the car a short while later.

the michelin exalto tires on my car from PO seem to be long-lived. ~50k on them from the previous owner and they still have got an acceptable amount of tread on them: i'll make it through the winter. i think i'll replace with same when they're worn away.

Anything that is performance oriented is better than the Michelin MXV4... Just like how it's better than the Michelin Harmony. The Harmony and MXV4 are definitely not worth the money.

I ask because I have MXV4's on my daily driver and they do wear very slowly (a plus), but I dislike two things about them:

(1) Sidewall is just too soft - lots of flex in dry handling.

(2) They are the ONLY tire my wagons have ever hydroplaned in. Once when the tires were brand new, then again a couple years later when they still had over 9/32 of tread left. The second time, I spun off the highway and wrecked the car (it's a parts car now). Of course I can't say for certain that the tires are to blame, but I sure am suspicious ...

I bought them because I like quiet and they had great reviews on tirerack. But when they finally wear out (down to just over 7/32 now), I will get something else.

"Better than" is kind of a fuzzy phrase. The MXV4 is called a Grand Touring All-Season tire while the Kumho 4X is an Ultra High Performance All-Season tire. They belong to different categories. If a Grand Touring tire is what you are after (very long life, nice ride, softer sidewall, zero road noise) then it is better for you. If you like the feel of a higher performance tire then it isn't better for you.

The MXV4 is a great tire and tops in its category. I was happy with them but it makes compromises in the performance area (plus it's expensive). I was careful to say that I liked the Kumho better than the Michelin, not that it was better.
