Re: Hi doing timing belt need cam locking tool were can i re
Thank you all for the input. I am ordering the kit today with water pump. I have 140 give or take a few thousands, gotta check the computer. Anyways the water pump failed on the way to work and it was clacking loud. Somehow amazingly i made it home 15 miles on the highway going 70 and it didn't break. got to my house and parked it. Haven't started it seance. Took of the timing cover and the water pump gear was wobbly and allot of play and leaked all the coolant on the ground through the weep hole i think at my house. And the timing belt was a little less then halfway off and rubbing on the cover. I don't think it skipped or moved cause it was running fine, Just the noise from the water pump. I thought i needed this tool http://www.ipdusa.com/product.asp?P_ID= ... ory=basket from the post i read to do the change. So if i don't have to use a tool that would be great, It would save me money and there back ordered and my car has been sitting a month. So gotta do this asap. But I am ordering this kit from ipd http://www.ipdusa.com/products/9220/120 ... r-pump-kit So my main question is what write-ups/videos should i use for this job. 1994 Volvo 850 turbo wagon with 143k id say? Me and my father (Really good mechanic But hasnt really worked on Volvo's) are doing this job, I already did the whole pvc and a few other jobs so with the help of a good video and tutorial i think we will be able to knock this out. So let me no what you think the best video and tutorial would be the best to use?

That kit is expensive. Much cheaper if you order like this:
- TB kit (TB, 2 pulleys) from Volvo dealer...$110 or so.
- Tensioner from dealer $75 or so.
- Aisin WP from online $70.
Again, READ the link I posted above!

Doesn't matter if the car is turbo or not. They are all the same from '94 - '98 (including the S70).
As for which instructions to you, check a few and select the one that fits you best (you understand the best).

You can usually order parts item by item on FCP's site. I'm not sure why iPd stopped selling them separate.

there saying the dealer.... thats not fcp. Can some1 just get me the exact links to the parts i need so i can buy it this morning? otherwise im just going with the ipd. If u meant fcp when you said dealer well fcp isnt the dealer. The dealer is the volvo place u go that they rip u off. And i dunno how you would order from them cause i dont deal with them. wouldnt u have to call local dealership?

It sounds like you want to make the purchasing process easy, so go with your IPD order and call it a day.hanzbe420 wrote:there saying the dealer.... thats not fcp. I picked and chose from three different places to get INA pulleys Aisin pump and tensioner, and Gates blue belt. But that's not for everybody.
Good Luck.

TY!! guys for all the suggestions. I went with a gates timing belt kit from 1aauto in mass. free ship and quick and i actually got some quality parts. Anyways the gates kit consisted of..... tensioner pulley is INA, idler pulley is INA, Tensioner is aisin warner, and belt didn't have a name on it just a number (252 dunno if thats teeth count) but i think its just a regular gates belt. It must of been a gates belt (the blue one in the picture above is the best one gates offers i think). The gasket was of better quality then i was expecting, and last but not least..... the water pump! With no name on it made in china lol. i will get the part numbers as they are on the box and in my car to see if we can determine what brand exactly is the water pump. This is where they were able to make the kit cheap i think and this is what everyone in all the thread i read said to not do and go with the oem water pump. To be honest it looked of very good quality. I will keep you posted if anything happens got my fingers crossed and really am not worried except i didn't use a torque wrench so i'll have to get one and do that. Gates is a reputable parts company and for it to come with all parts the same as fcp except water pump and belt which is just a better gates belt For 280 is a deal i think. Saved about 70-100$ from the oem. The oem volvo kit is like 500$ but i didnt even notice this ----> http://www.ipdusa.com/products/9220/120611-timing-belt-water-pump-kit they had this kit for 10$ more! i feel like an idiot now :/ well who knows maybe it will last! What do you guys think about this kit i got from ----> http://www.1aauto.com/1A/TimingBelts/Volvo/850/GAEEK00167/698713/1994
o and they also had this one from FCP but i dunno if it was a fit cause it has to be inbetween a certain engine serial number cause theres two different timing belts. ----> http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-timing-belt-kit-and-water-pump-kit-comprehensive-oem-parts-tbkit252wp

You will soon find out:
- WP: Aisin is the king and use only the green gasket that comes with it.
- HEPU WP is good too. Although HEPU gasket is good, people here would say Aisin gasket is better.
- Chinese WP is a pure gamble.
This is a big job involving a lot of labor, you don't want to "penny-wise-but-pound-foolish". That is what the British people would say.
