Volvo installed many variations of fuel delivery into these cars. With and without a return line, FPR at the rail or at the firewall or back at the fuel filter, and the pulse dampener in various places, through the different years.
Since I am not expert in the various systems but fuel delivery seems pretty important, I try to retain what was installed, or switch completely from one system to the other if working with a parts car and a keeper. On fuel delivery I don't make guesses about which parts are important or why. So IMHO the junkyard idea is a good, cheap solution. As you have no doubt figured out from your searching, failure of this part is very uncommon so no, it is absolutely not true that they will all be rusted out at the yard. I would at least go look. The tricky thing may be finding a model that actually has it, though.
