Re: 1999 V70 GLT Valve Tick Question

So I ordered all the parts necessary. We made an appointment with the mechanic to bring the car in. He said my father could keep driving the car in the meantime.

Yesterday as he was driving, there was a cloud of black smoke out of the tailpipe. All the oil was gone after he stopped. We towed it to the shop and now apparently the turbo has gone bad. Does that make sense? I have a feeling they are trying to rip us off.

They quoted me $1100 for a turbo plus gaskets, spark plugs?, and labor for $1700 total. Seriously? The mechanic did say they would let me bring in my own part if I could buy a good used turbo somewhere. Ebay is the default place, I don't see any in the for sale section. They told me the 99 V70 GLT has two different turbos and they are not interchangeable. How can I tell which one I need?
