The thing that puzzles me is I bought the car in February 2013 and the heat worked great. It wasn't till this fall when the temps dropped that I discovered I had no heat. By the way the old core was in great shape. It looked like it wasn't the original as it didn't have the telltale discoloration of the plastics. And with the core out I started the engine (dead cold) and cycled the heater blend doors and they functioned perfectly with both the original ECC unit and one I bought on Ebay.

You started the engine with the core out? What did you do with the heater lines?

Pretty good chance you've got a huge air pocket somewhere.

heater lines were clamped shut. I have flow as I touched the lines (quickly because they were very hot) and I have a steep hill in my area that I park on and, with the overflow cap off, let it run for a half an hour. I just needed to replace about a quart of 50/50.

The coolant system in these cars fills and burps really well.

Do you have the air mix vent control closed?

Just to rule out the simple:

What is the Temperature dial set to?

Is your air selection set to Fresh or Recirc(ulate)?

What is the Function dial set too (face, feet, defrost, ...)?

Do you have snow or ice on your windshield or the trough between it and the hood?

What fan speed do you have selected?

Are you driving during the night, or the day when any indicator lights are less visible?

(more below)

" * When the function selector is in the defrost setting, the A/C will automatically be ON if recirculation is not on and the blower control is not in position 0. ... NOTE: If your windows begin to fog or mist, check that the recirculation function is NOT engaged."

**When the function selector is in the defrost setting, the A/C system is ON and the blower will function at its highest speed if it is in the AUT position. ... * Pressing the ON section of the button for more than 3 seconds activates a timer function. Recirculation will then always operate for 5 minutes ..."

Additionally, you had a high of 9° F (-13°C) and a low of -8° F (-22° C) in Kimberly, WI yesterday, correct?

What is "warmish" to you in ° F considering the heater core would have swing fresh air 50 degrees just to get to 59° F?

How hot would the heater core have to get for it to change incoming air (X) to your desired/selected temperature (Y) in relation to the plastic core ends and housing?

What does the coolant temperature gauge read?

What speed are you driving at?

Are you sure you do not need one of these?

Did you have a look inside the cowling where the cabin air filter goes? Remove the filter and see what you can see. Maybe plugged with leaves or other crap. Skinny flexible tube with a vacuum cleaner can pull out a lot of junk.
