Take a look in the Dice program group. The install should have placed the Dice diagnostic application in the menu.

Firmware version 2.7.1.

Firmware starts with a 5 such as 5.6.2 Look at the other field in the program.

I looked at the firmware version box after connecting DiCE, Mike. It says 2.7.1.
What is my next step?

There are two options under the Tools drop down menu: Remove device, and Update Firmware.
Selecting Update Firmware returns a message "update not found".

You need to download a new firmware file from http://www.volvotechinfo.com and point the program at the new file first.

Something sure is fishy with uour unit if it provides a firmware beginning with a 2

The latest version is 5.6.2

It is identical to the one on my computer, however, mine OKs all the built-in tests.

VIDA has to allow downloads via a pass-through that is J2534 compliant. The change to that standard will leave some early firmware DiCE copycats not usable for software. If the firmware is late enough this is not an issue. IF the old Dice copycat device will allow firmware update then the issue can be fixed.

The power supply back up is important as the current draw on battery is enough to reduce voltag, even on a new good battery, to a level that allows some modules to do low power shut down. A battery charger is not voltage stabilized so it will not be adequate for this. A second good battery connected via jumper cables with a battery charger on a 10 amp or less charge rate will work in place of an RV power supply (the base of most OE stabilized download power supplies is an RV power supply).
The DiCE itself is not very picky. It can work with a broader range of power supplies. Many old laptop power supplies with the correct end plug will work. The only use for external power supply is for firmware updates and select downloads will require the DiCE be powered while battery is disconnected. Vida will be sending commands via DiCE that are only effective if they are present at power up of the target module. DiCE has to be powered for VIDA to have it operating with no vehicle power supply from data link connector.

The referenced interface below shows DiCE-206751. Is that an old DiCE?
Is there a correlation between DiCE-206751 and warranty date 2008-08-08?
