Well, TireRack doesn't seem to want to offer me 15 inch steel wheels, so I might have to do 16s after all for snows....

What do you mean they "don't want to offer"?
They either have them or not.

I've never run 15" snows.
On my old 850R I ran 205/55/16 snows w/steelies and they worked great
Same on our 2000 V70R, 16s using the same tire size on 16" Satellites

I would not get rims from Tire Rack, they supplied me with aftermarket ones that did not fit the hubs well and seemed really prone to denting- I ended up with a set of Columbas from a wreck

Have lots of 15 inch snow tires, no 15 inch steel rims.

I don't really care what size I get as long as they fit both cars

Have you tried JRL's recommendation in the past of Erie Vo-Vo to see if they have any steels. I got an old set of 15" Volvo steels from under a mechanics bench at a dealer. They were in great shape. We get a lot of used wheels for Volvos for sale on Kijiji up here, both 15" and 16" are popular. I sold that set of 15" steels and a set of 15" Spika alloys recently. On the 15's I ran either 185 or 195/60 tires.

JRL is right on the 16". I run a set of 17" on my R with 225/45 - 17's. They work great also.

If you are still looking, I have a set of 15" steelies that you can have for free. You can pick them up in White Plains during the day. We had them on our first XC and they ran fine for many years. Now they are gathering dust.
You're welcome to pm me if interested.
