Genuine only mate. Others WILL leak soon. At 320,000 k Replaced all with Volvo seals and I expect many years of no leaks. Pay peanuts and get chimps. Please be well advised with these. Cheers Steve

My 250psi rating hose will be fine.Oil pressure is 14 psi (.10 bar) at idle and 43 psi (.30 bar)
volvo 850 engine oil at 3000 RPM.

I had to do this job in my 98 S70 T5 and it is a PIA!!! I agree with Erik. I would NOT trust the life of my engine to a couple hose clamps on some heater hose. Thumbs up for ingenuity, but these are high pressure hoses and if that things pops you are DONE!!! I did that repair a few years ago on a power steering pump and after about a week it failed.
Heater core hose is not meant to be used with oil. That's why you had the failure.
The Gates transmission hose I used is rated for 250psi+ and 300F+
Please, educate yourself.
LOL thanks for scolding me Trying. Next time I post I will ensure I will not only speak from personal experience, but do my thorough research as well.

Gentlemen,
- Hose material: trans cooler hose type is good, it is rated for oil.
- Pressure: ENGINE oil pressure in a gasoline engine is anywhere between 7 psi ---> 60 psi (at max rpm).
* However, that is oil pressure at measuring port and at crank bearing journals.
* When the oil leaves the tstat and runs to the oil cooler hose, it is less because it "free flows". My guess is if you were to measure oil pressure at the radiator itself, it is about 30% of the above values. Similar idea like garden hose faucet, once the water is turned on and flows freely, the pressure is low compared with what you have in the house.
- PS Fluid pressure is WAY UP there (1000 psi!!!), this is why one should not rebuild high-pressure PS hose.
So back to the oil cooler line: trans cooler hose and 1 clamp is good for those with low budget. Or use the original barb fitting + 2 Oetiker clamps. I posted some photos in forum.
If one is rich, then go with Volvo OEM, which is about $100 x 2 = $200.

I don't see any reason why Tryingbe's solution won't work, the clamps would be the weak point but if you choose something high quality; it should be okay.
How did you connect to the other end.

Cut open the factory hoses and you'll see the factory metal tubes are just barb ends.mecheng wrote:

I have no issue at all with "your" hose material, sorry if you get that impression. To say it again, for me there is one possible issue, it is the clamping setup specifically on the oil cooler lines. That's it. I think this idea is simple and may work, if a lot of people do it then we may find out that one clamps will hold up anyway.tryingbe wrote:http://www.volvotips.com/index.php/850- ... ce-manual/erikv11 wrote:Transmission cooler lines are low pressure, I agree 100% there is zero cause for concern there. But do please reply again explaining that I'm wrong and you will be fine, I'm getting used to it and I will stop complaining about it.
Oh, for the record I am using rebuilt oil cooler lines but they use the original fittings and two Oetikers on each fitting.
