Volvo 850 oil cooler line seals any aftermarket alternatives

Post by VolvoS70BASE »

The two seals that go on the oil cooler lines at radiator is their any aftermarket alternatives for these two seals. One is is a green oring the other is clear sealing ring. Dealer charges 8 dollars each for clear sealing ring which is nuts.

Those clear sealing rings don't often go bad, basically if they appear intact then I re-use them. Similarly, I would not hesitate to replace them with a junkyard piece that appears fine. The o-rings I do like to replace to know for sure there is a good one in there.

Like rspi said,if you need to buy one then only go with the dealer part.

1+,

The CLEAR ring is the "shock absorber" allowing the line to flex a bit. So re-use this.
The Green O-rings: PN 6842413 is only $3.70/each:

Here's the proper way to fix the issue. It worked on my Autozone radiator.

What does the barbed NPT fit into, looks like an adapter. Can you list the part numbers?
Neat idea.

Someone posts this comment almost every time tryingbe shows this cool solution, sorry to be redundant but it may be a good idea to repeat so I will: The oil cooler lines are under high pressure, and there is some doubt that a single screw clamp is sufficient to hold it together over time. At least use two clamps where you can, maybe use oetikers.

I had to do this job in my 98 S70 T5 and it is a PIA!!! I agree with Erik. I would NOT trust the life of my engine to a couple hose clamps on some heater hose. Thumbs up for ingenuity, but these are high pressure hoses and if that things pops you are DONE!!! I did that repair a few years ago on a power steering pump and after about a week it failed. Also, go with OE lines for this repair. Trust me, this is NOT something you want to do again in the near future.

Heater core hose is not meant to be used with oil. That's why you had the failure.

The Gates transmission hose I used is rated for 250psi+ and 300F+

Please, educate yourself.

Those fuel injection clamps in the pictures were sold by O'reilly, and they are really poor in quality. After breaking one just by tightening the clamp shortly after those pictures were taken, I replaced them all with high quality clamps.

I'm not sure where the fear of using the transmission hose and quality hose clamp is coming from, I know for a fact Chrysler use used them in their cars. Also, most of the aftermarket transmission cooler use transmission hoses and clamps as well.

1/4 NPT to 3/8 inch barb for the transmission end. One straight fitting and one 45 degree fitting
1/4 NPT to 1/2 inch barb for the engine oil end. One straight fitting and one 90 degree fitting

These are off my Autozone radiator. I don't know if other radiator maker could use the same fittings as my radiator.

Transmission cooler lines are low pressure, I agree 100% there is zero cause for concern there. It's the oil cooler lines that are high pressure, that's what I am wondering about.
