I had a very similar experience when I first purchased my car, a 1996 855R. It came with aftermarket wheels and mis-sized hub rings which left about 1/2mm of slop. At speeds higher than 50 I would feel a vibration that would come and go as the wheels would sync up and then go out of sync. It took forever to figure out.
I didn't think to suggest this as a possibility for your case because it sounded like your vibration was more consistent.
If you're curious, you can read the thread here:

I might also add, since folks are discussing snows and rims recently, that I could not ever get stud-centric steel rims with snow tires to center on the hub well enough to run without vibrating. I ended up having to go with hub-centric alloy rims and hub rings for my snows.
My R seems very sensitive to this. Are they all like this? Others have mentioned being able to run snows on steel rims. Are the Volvo steelies hub centric?

The rims I am running were very easy to find on craigslist for about $300US. But I do live in a very large (7million) metro area so its pretty easy to find everything... They are original Volvo Arakkis (spelling?) from an s80 and look great! Apparently some people have brake line clearance issues with s80 rims if they have upgraded to big brake kits, but I have not and do not. Just an FYI for anyone else dealing with rim issues reading this thread: the very common (and common at junkyards) s80 and s60 1999-2007 7x17 with 49mm offset rims with 65.1mm bore look great on v70 wagons and seem fit fine!
Paul, I think I'll just use used alloys with this same configuration for my snows now that I know they fit
I've attached a pic of 17" stock Volvo wheels on the v70 series. I think they look great and dont make you ride as rough as 18"s do. Thanks again to all.
