Re: 96 850 NA PCV Guidance/Hose ID
I saw that the IPD kit was loaded with extras, for every possible NA model. I ordered this one (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... bo-850t300), which appears to cover all 96 NA variants. The hoses are all OEM as well.

I was a beginner at that time and PCV was my first job. I later ordered FCP Euro kit, but one hose was still incorrect despite my beginner research with VIDA. I had my gf run to the Volvo dealer to get the correct hose.
If you are lucky it will all fit.
In that FCP Euro that you show, There are 4 items that may be wrong depending on your engine variation. 1) The oil separator, 2) The long hose bundle, 3) The curved long hose, 4) The short hose. The thin hoses rolled up may not be needed at all. The flame trap is not needed likely. My 1996 850 never had one.

How long ago did you purchase the kit? I have a virtual machine with VADIS somewhere, I'll take a look to confirm the parts. What is the purpose of the thin hoses?Redneck wrote:I was a beginner at that time and PCV was my first job. I guess time to get VADIS running again. If there's an issue with these parts, I won't be able to finish the job before I drive back to school. As a result, it'll be another ~1200 or so miles before I can even think about working on it.

PCV job step No1: Get part numbers from Vadis/Vida and order only the correct parts you need. Get them from FCP Euro.
Go through the process of taking everything apart and make sure that you have all socket extensions to reach certain bolts. Get intake cleaner spray and clean everything there very well. Get some seafoam and pour into the engine ports to clean out. Get round wire brushes to clean the ports from carbon.

eriscentro. I'm pretty sure you have the right kit on order. I have engine# 675,xxx and first mistakenly ordered kit# 850T96 for '96 850 NA. When it arrived, I immediately knew it was wrong from looking at the hose that goes up to the flame trap. I called FCP and told the sales rep. that my 850 PCV system was exactly the same as the one on our S70 NA--16 years of ownership so I ought to know. He said my 850 must not be a '96, it had to be a '97. Not so. So I returned the 850T96 and ordered 850T300 and it was a perfect fit. So since you are engine# 7xx,xxx, I believe you have got the right stuff on order.eriscentro wrote:I saw that the IPD kit was loaded with extras, for every possible NA model. BTW, FCP is very courteous about returns. This was April of 2014.
erikv, you are spot on when you say there is some confusion, because what parts Volvo put on at assembly probably tracked to when the existing supply ran out rather than to exact specific model year changes. Which can create a headache for jobbers like FCP.

An end nipper will work but the edges are pretty sharp so one has to be careful. The Oetiker clamps are used in irrigation systems, so if you have a supplier nearby, they will likely sell the tool. I made one from a large hog-ring plier from Harbor Freight that I filed notches into to get the right grip.eriscentro wrote:I guess I'll have to pick up one of the tools to clamp the oetiker clamp.
Also a set of wobble extensions from Harbor Freight will more than pay for themselves on this job for R&R of the manifold.

FCP Euro doesn't like when you return Genuine Volvo OE parts. They ask you why, and you need to take pictures of the parts etc.. Unless you agree with them in advance on return, there may be a hassle. But they will accept the return.
I bought a real Oeitker crimp tool. If you cut/damage/weaken the clamp with sharp cutting tool, you can't complete the work.

Reinstalling VADIS as I write this - thankfully I found the installer among five hard drives worth of data (being a computer person has its downfalls). I'll make sure to triple check the data in VADIS. I would have earlier, although I hadn't realized how many variations on these parts existed.
