Even if you were to drop the tank you'll still have to connect the hoses though that small access hole.

Hole will be "re-engineered" once the gasoline is away from cutting area 
-don't know how you guys do this I have NEVER successfully replaced pump through access hole supposedly designed to make this operation easier - always ended up dropping tank - here no exception
