Excellent - thanks!
The 205/55/16 & 225/50/16 are both same diameter (24.9") so I'm not changing profile, I'm only changing width.

Feels like lots of room in the back to handle slightly more width, but front feels close. I might jack it in front and turn full lock both ways and check for clearance with current stock 205/55. Not sure if the XC suspension is going to make the potential for rubbing better or worse with wider tires. This thing sits HIGH with lots of room over the tires, but squishy suspension. I'm guessing the XC has different suspension (particularly in the front) than the 850(?) and, if so, not sure if that will work for or against me.

Followup: I now have 225/50/16 all-around on my 2000 V70 XC with NO rubbing anywhere, anytime. Full-load, full-lock, ... nothing rubs, and the ride and handling are SIGNIFICANTLY improved. Same diameter as the spec size of 205/55/16 (24.9"). Great decision, highly recommended!
