Hi,

Wow some very nice pics there, thanks.

I took a better look today and tried the parking brake trick.
The parking brake trick did not seem to do anything, but i could tell that the normal rubbing sound might be caused by those drums and shoes because when i gently apply the parking brake while rolling, i can here the scraping sound get louder. That makes me think that sound is the brake adjustment.

However, the low rumbling is a different sound and happens mainly when i step on the brake, which makes me think it is something else causing that noise. I was wondering what if the shim was missing for the brake pads, and does every one of these brakes have a shim or just some models, and what is the shim actually do?

Is the rumble sound like it is from the front or back? It may not be a brake issue, but may be a wheel bearing starting to complain.

Definitely passenger side back wheel.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

The rear rotors are like the ones in this video, main difference is the wheel studs are not part of the bearing.

I may as well piggyback on this thread: If anyone know what is going on I would appreciate the enlightenment as it has my stumped:

I have checked handbrake, and its not the handbrake. I thought rotor was not balanced perfectly, so I made sure it was concentrically mounted. The only thing I have left to do is replace the caliper with a new one. It seems to not be "opening up" I guess...

Just a quick note if you haven't ever done a rear brake job on these cars. The rotors will not just simply slide off like the front. You need to release the tension on the parking brake or else you risk tearing everything up. There is a small hole in the rotor to give you access.

^in my experience, once caliper is off, and the pin is off, the rotor just slides off. Maybe it is because my handbrake is not tight (I do not use it)

mika - pull the wheel off, does it still rub? If so, it is rubbing on the drum, probably inside from the shoes. If you want to be real thorough you can pull the shoes and put the drum back on, see if it still rubs.

I have seen the drum/rotor slide right off, or be deeply grooved and held captive by the shoes.
