Thank you gentlemen, for all the tips and alleviating any worries about reusing these bolts. I've heard of the issue of oil creep past the bolts--can't be much if the heads were clean and dry at makeup. If it were a manual clutch it would be a big problem, but with an auto, I don't think it would be an issue. The main thing is those bolts staying tight, so I'll think about the thread lock type.
I just finished assembling the HF 2 ton engine lift and planning for this job sometime next month, but have procured the Volvo seals and a few other parts. Thanks Erik, for that socket size. The set I ordered is sans 16mm so didn't want to get a nasty surprise by Volvo using that weird size on top of the 12 point head.
I agree that this job is best left to a trustworthy indy, but the only one I know within at least 120 mi. does not work on Volvos. Robert Spinner has agreed to take this on if his Texas tour pans out as planned--otherwise I would never have attempted it on my own due to my aching back and advanced age. But if it works out, it will be an adventure in addition to the solving of a nagging problem.
With wheelsup's excellent tutorial, it's not uncharted ground. In doing a search of the internet, MVS seems to have a lock on detailed how-to for this job--once again making this site the go-to place for the best P80 repair info. Thanks to all contributors.

Great video on removing transmission. I have great difficulty in removing the 6-T50 Torx bolts. It took me 6-hours just to get 3-of them out. I was not using an impact tool, so my hand held bits did not want to break the sel on the screws. The heads on the remaining 3-are beginning to get damaged due to my repeated attempts at removal. So I am asking whether it is absolutely necessary to remove these screws? Can you still remove the transmission & leave the Flex Plate & Torque converter attached to the flywheel? Will that cause a big problem with alignment/damage to flex plate, when I put the replacement auto transmission on? Thanks for any advice

I don’t know the answer to this but I suspect you should research the torque converter seals And if they get damaged getting pulled like this.
Drill those flex plate bolts out.
Drill those flex plate bolts out.
