1999 V70xc Strut mount noise. Will alignment be necessary?

There's a lot of guessing going on in here. First off, are you checking spring seats or to strut mount (aka bearing plate) ??

Good point by Russ. The top nut checks the spring seat, which is by far the most common failure item in there.

Likely you can just replace the spring seat, but you run the risk of having to pull the strut yet again if the bearing in the strut mount gets creaky. At least you can replace a strut mount without disassembling the tower, you only have to pull it.

I agree with dosbricks on the alignment. If you are careful you don;t need one, but you have to watch the front tire wear carefully. Or take advantage of one of those "free alignment checkup" coupons.

That was one of the questions I had. I wasn't sure before if spinning nut indicated the spring seat, or the mount. Same with the initial clunk. Now I have all that answered. Thanks all, I appreciate it!

Either way, I'll plan on replacing both. Better safe than sorry. I wish I had done them when I did the struts.
