Ohmmeter test for continuity between pins 6 and 7 on the PNP connector. The Green/Red wire and the Green wire respectively. There should be continuity when the shifter is in either park or neutral but not in any other position.

There should also be battery voltage on pin 7 when the key is in position III.

Thanks Lee. Will update later this week when everything has been tested. However an update of sorts: The car started the next morning immediately, without issue as if nothing had ever happened :? . It has started again without issue more than a dozen times since :| .

I think we can conclude you have not fried your ignition switch but I would leave the new one in and check the PNP per Lee.

Hi everyone, thank you for all your help on this, things were going fine for about a month, occasionally it wouldn't start, but if I waited about 30 min, it would start fine. Recently things have got worse, were it wont start unless I let it sit for at least 30 min between running it.

As such, I decided to take out the PNP switch today. I got it out, cleaned up and aligned with no problem thanks to the great tutorial on here, but the car still isn't starting. Before I try and get a new PNP switch ($300 bucks up north here) I was wondering if there is anything else I should test?

Thanks

Nick

A hot no- start is often the starter ( and often the solenoid part)

I'm not sure, but dont think, PNP problems are temperature soak dependent.

There are a couple of stops along the way from the
ignition switch to the starter itself. A tried and true
way to isolate wringing path problems from actual
starter problems it to bypass the switch and relay
contacts all together.

Get to the two terminals on the starter and run a
jumper from the big battery post to the little solenoid
terminal. If the starter engages consistently using that
method, then move upstream through the security's
starter cut relay, the PNP and finally the ignition switch.

IIRC, those are the possible failure points
in the path from the key to the starter.

Long time no update. Car has sat with intermittent starting issues continuing. Licensing exams are out of the way so I've had some wrenching hours available. I tested PNP switch today. I do get continuity between 6&7 when shifter is in park and neutral but not any other time however I do no have any voltage at pin 7 when ignition is turned to position 3. Is this the fault of the switch itself? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My V70 is A bifuel cng.
Now I have switched to CNG gas and it runs fine. I suspect my problem is related to fuelpump or relay 103?? On normal unleaded it has 0Amp over fuse 12, but 1,2Amp when i activate CNG.

Well I feel ridiculous, replaced starter and she lives again. Drives beautifully. Thanks for all of the help through this process. Learned a lot.
