Installed new ignition start switch

Post by blurat »

Hi all. I just finished installing a new push button start stop go switch in my 2008 xc70. It looked easy when I watched a youtuber change his bezel around the switch and it indeed was.
Unfortunately, now when I hooked the battery back up and inserted my FOB into the little trap door it was immediately spit back out and a message told me Key Error. I tried several times but no go on the start gizmo.
Am I to believe this is one of Volvo neato you have to get programmed moments? Or is there a way to tell the car indeed it is the right key?
Any help appreciated, could really use the car on a 3 day weekend.
Thanks

Yes. You need to program this module. Dealer can program NEW brand only.

OK.......when I took the old switch out and installed the new and it didnt work without programming, I decided to disassemble the old switch. No rocket science in there, just some gears and circuit board. Cleaned everything with contact cleaner, removed the gears and lubed them along with the top plate etc.
reinstalled the old switch, it works like new EXCEPT.........all the lights come on when I insert the fob and first start the car, as usual, but I have no information at the center of the tach and speedo. No odometer, no fuel level etc.

Can I get this back somehow? I have the dice unit if necessary but there must be an easier way.

Thanks again,
Chris

OK..Went out to see if the car even drove....all lights and dash messages working like new.

Now I have an extra switch, brand new.
