What jdchillin said, the cruise control vacuum pump is attached to the bottom of the battery tray.

So the one tip that I found which helped me the most was to pull the charcoal canister down from under the fender take 2 j hoses off and blow into them, if the one going to the purge valve and the check valves lets you blow through it then it's in the engine bay. If the one that goes back to the gas tank lets you blow into it without any back pressure then it's somewhere around the fuel tank. On mine it was the one back to the gas tank which I found a split in the hard line between the rollover valve and the canister.

Also on yours do you have another valve mounted inside the drivers fender close to the door?

Yes. I replaced that and the hose back to it about 18 months ago with an OEM valve and some bulk rubber heater hose. It was a giant pain. It should be OK, but who knows. I have no reason to start with those components since they are fairly new, but if I can't find the problem I'll eventually check them again.

I just switched to Pierburgh Valve, so far so good:

This thread is very informative. I haven't seen it before or at least don't ever remember seeing it. It answered several of my questions. The rubber hoses on both sides of the rollover valve probably need to be replaced in my car. All of the original rubber hoses in this system have fallen apart in my hand when removing them. I'm going to study the thread for other hose couplings in the back that may need to be replaced. I have the tapered one on top the tank sitting on my workshop bench but don't have time to replace that one right now since access requires drilling a hole, etc. I don't want to rush that one.

I'm so sick of the problem that I thought I would have some fun with it. Sometimes I write poems. Some are serious, some are just for fun. There may be a poem about P0455 in the thread title concept. I was thinking about it today on my daily drive to work.

My emissions test isn't until July so I have time to get it taken of, but it annoys me tremendously. Especially when I think I've finally got it fixed and after a few weeks it comes back.

It is a quirk of the Volvo EVAP cycle that it can take 2000 miles to finally test correctly, and give you your loyal friend. If you have a small leak it can really take a long time to finally give you the CEL.

Is your EVAP circuit going ready with no codes when you think you have fixed it? If not, you haven't found the problem yet.

Do the two hoses on either side of the roll over valve play into having a P0455 code? Hose P/N is 3501350. They are called the fuel tank vent hose. Can these hoses be accessed through the inspection panel? I am also trying to make this code go away on a 98 V70 AWD. All the hoses on the front of the car are new, also put in a new purge valve because the other was not firing when 12 volt dc was applied on the bench.

Yes, any hose that connects to the rollover valve can give a P0455. On the short list of first places to look. As far as access goes, I don't know the setup on AWD cars.

This is quite a bit of a long shot and I haven't tried it myself, but I have noticed on all of my P80 cars (three now) that the "clamshell" protector around where the fuel filler neck inserts into the fuel tank is rusted to baklava. I am getting a similar, persistent 455 code on one of those cars and am wondering if the rusted clamshell might have something to do with it.

P.S. I call it a clamshell, because it is a circular collar divided into two halves, each of which when separated resembles a clamshell. I don't know the Volvo part # or proper name for it, however.
