I haven't posted because I've been furiously trying to work through these issues because we planned to take the car on a road trip over the holidays. Switched out the ignition switch, real simple job, but the intermittent throttle problems continued. As the MAF was original I decided to start there. Iocated one about 80 miles away.
Swapped it out last Saturday. While on a test drive I lost electrical again. My wife brought me jumper cables and a voltmeter. Once I got it started I could only read 11.7 volts at 1,700 rpms. So I figured the alternator had crapped out. Luckily a local parts store had one in stock. I put the new alternator in, with great help from posts on this forum, and took the car back out. Throttle problems persisted, but then while I was travelling down the highway I heard a "pop" and then I could hear the turbo whir.
I pulled it over to the side of the road and had it towed to a local indie shop, Coachworx in Madison. The "pop" was a failed clamp on the lower intercooler house. Simple fix, but still could not find the cause of my throttle problem. Everything checked out within spec. When I went to leave I had no throttle (Yeah!). Quick diagnosis revealed the ETM had failed. Justin, the owner, put on a good used ETM to get me by and I shipped my unit off to Xemodex yesterday. He'll swap it out when the new one arrives.
