Just so you know: the oil trap is just a hollow box, there are no diaphragms of any kind inside it. Of all the parts in the PCV system, the oil trap is the one where alternate brands are most obviously, totally fine. Be careful about what information from this mechanic you trust. As rspi said, you should probably get compression numbers yourself.

If the glove inflates, the crankcase pressure is not acceptable.

The mechanic is scanning a copy of the compression/leak-down test results today. I'll take a look and see what "acceptable" looks like to him. Glove still inflates. With new cam seals all around, I want to get this fixed before blowing the RMS.

On that note, I'll be looking for a new shop--too many issues with this guy. No idea what he meant by a diaphragm in the oil trap then. Regardless, I installed a new OEM trap, so I won't worry about that piece of the puzzle.

I will end up doing the 5/8" hose mod, probably using Gates Safety Stripe fuel line. I'm in California and need to stay away from heater hose. Will post updates when I can get around to the fix. Any thoughts on what to replace the intake/PTC vacuum line with?

Per usual, appreciate all the help and feedback.

PTC is super clean--spent a ton of time cleaning and re-cleaning it. Read up on the 5/8" hose mode. That'll be next...
