You may be interested to know that by 1998, Volvo eliminated the flame trap disc, even though it is the exact same engine and PCV piping.

And I just found out why they eliminated the flame trap, from this service notice in VADIS... (This program have a world of information, just have to learn how to use it properly):
Crankcase ventilation, service

Note! Winter driving and short journeys can cause build-ups of ice in the flame trap. In severe cases, this may damage the crankshaft seals. Therefore the system must be cleaned thoroughly.

Remove the cover over the throttle pulley
Release the hose clamp for the inlet hose on the air cleaner (ACL) housing.
Disconnect the hose from the air cleaner (ACL) housing. Bend the hose forward slightly.
Remove the oil filler cap

Clean the crankcase ventilation and/or remove the flame trap
Remove the flame trap by twisting it approximately 15 mm to the left (bayonet socket).
Clean the flame trap housing (2) after the flame trap has been removed. Blow the hoses clean 1&3. Clean the inputs and outputs for the multi-nipple (4). (does not apply to 1995 models)
Note! The nipple (3) for the small hose has a 2.5 mm diameter calibrated hole. (Use a drill bit for cleaning)
Caution! Do not disconnect the hoses from the flame trap casing. Altering the hose positioning can affect the throttle function.

Reinstall the components
Reinstall all the components except for the flame trap.
So since I live in a country where there's at least a chance of snow 3 months every year, I'll not install the flame trap and just get rid of the one I bought.

I thought it was simply because people thought it was not necessary to have the flame trap that you guys said to just not install it. Now you can tell others exactly why they should rip out the trap first thing they see it installed in their car.

And a slap on my wrist for not listening to you sooner.

Get rid of it because it gets clogged up. Oil, ice, whatever ... yes a clogged flame trap can cause crankcase pressure and blow seals.
