They all have crappy bearings and crappy pulley. If you are mechanically inclined better spend these money on quality bearings, pulley, regulator, rings and do it yourself. Or pay twice as much and get Bosch (which is still may be worse than OE).PeteB wrote:$100 to "$150 range is decent and will last at least 5 years or so.

I ended by putting a 05-09 alternator and swapped the 03-04 regulator

Updating this, I kept the 05-09 alternator (came off a 2005 model) completely with the 2005 regulator. Interestingly everything works fine on a 2004. The regulator was changed from 2005 on with a modified internal design which seems to work on 2003-2004 engines.

Oragex, I have the same alternator, Bosch 8676498/0 124 525 029/140A, on my 2004 S60 2.5T. Since the alternator seller on Amazon does not ship to Australia, I want to buy a voltage regulator from Fcp Euro to see if it fixed my problem. Can you tell me the voltage regulator that works on your car so I can order the same one from Fcp Euro?

This is the original regulator that came off my 2003 alternator. Note my car is a 2003 n/a automatic with 140A alternator (I have read that the alternator depends on the transmission type, not sure if it's true).
The paper in the link seems to indicate that regulator #8637851 is the same as #F 00M 145279
