Re: Please help me find the no-start unicorn hiding in my 2001 Volvo V70 T5
I'm leaning towards Crankshaft position sensor....Its magnetic and could need to be cleaned off or replaced...easy to do....
Updating to let everyone know that I FINALLY solved this problem and have my car running great. Interestingly enough I did not find any mention of what was ultimately the cause of the no-start in my research.
The issue was that the Hydraulic Valve Lifter system had become depressurized. In my many attempts to start it over the past few months my battery was not strong enough (even after charging it fully) to power the starter for enough time to get the lifters re-pressurized. The solution was to have jumper cables hooked up and crank the engine until it flooded (1-2min of cranking), then unplug the fuel injector wires, crank a 10-20 more seconds to purge the cylinders of fuel, and then let the starter motor rest for a few minutes, plug the injectors back in, and repeat. I repeated at least 10 times, and it took a couple of hours before it finally turned over. Once It was running and able to start right up I ran the codes and found a bad injector. I replaced the injector and the fuel filter, and put a can of sea foam in the tank and now she's running great!

The diagnosis path here was
No fire with starter fluid
Confirm spark and timing
Compression problem.
I'll bet this was more lawn mower syndrome than lifter pump up.
