Spent my 4th under the v70 installing new front struts, spring seats, strut mounts, bump stops, dust boots and sway bar end links.

I created this ghetto spanner wrench to remove the x- nut atop the struts. Not pretty but I only had 1/4 rods to weld with. Worked like a champ.

Also managed to repair the rattling tailgate, install a new fuel filter, and flush the transmisssion with synthetic ATF.

Anyone know how to access the top rear shock nut on a 1998 V70 wagon? I know its under the carpet, but how do you get access? I'm a little hesitant to go yanking on the plastic trim inevitably something always snaps.

A lot depends on whether you have "dicky seats" fitted, if so you can undo them and move them rearward out of the way, tilt the main rear seats forward and then lift up and pull rearward the carpet covered wooden floor panels out of their slide in clips to give access to the mounts, working through the back doors to get to them is the easier way to go. You dont have to undo or remove any plastic bits.

By "dicky seats" I guess you are referring to third row seating? Don't have that.

I'll take a look tomorrow, hopefully I'll be able to do as you say, fold the rear seats and lift up the wooden deck. I tried half heartedly the other day but the decking didn't want to move. Maybe I'm missing a latch release of something?
