Nope, no 'load fail' on that trip. We spent most time between 70-75 mph, even with some decent crosswinds, and the canoes were rock solid. I added a picture of the mounting details in case someone wants to rig up something similar. The scraps of hardwood flooring had nice grooves in the underside that were spaced such that they fit snugly on the bottom of the stock roof rails. Another piece of hardwood flooring was used on the top, just to shim the 2x4 up a bit. The front shims were tapered to fit the down-sloping roof rails while keeping the 2x4 horizontal to match the rear.
