2006 XC70 Vs 2004 XC70 collision......

Post by JimG63 »

So much for all of the work I'd put into my '06 over the past few weeks. On a main secondary road yesterday afternoon, 2 lanes in each direction, going with the traffic flow, maybe 30-35mph. 200yds ahead I see another XC70 stopped on a side road on the right waiting to pull into traffic. I'm in the right lane, NO cars between us....when I'm 25ft from the side road.....THE OTHER DRIVER PULLS OUT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN!!!! I managed to hit the brakes but it was too late. Other driver's left front plows into the passenger right front at an incoming angle. Knocked the front end of my car into the left lane, fortunately we didn't get a secondary hit from behind, as it's a pretty busy road. My airbags deployed, filling the car with a cloud of powder and a resounding BOOM.... My fiance took the brunt of the force, the powder gave her a major asthma attack, and she spent 4-5 hours in the ER after an ambulance ride. Fiance is beat up and sore today, I'm just a little sore on my left shoulder from the seat belt. The safety systems worked, but a split second either way and either I would have been T-boned right into the passenger door, or the other driver would have been. 85# Lab IN A CRATE in the back of my car, was none the worse for wear. Now to wait and see if the insurance company tries to only pay me trade in value instead of retail....

Bloody Volvo driver!! I mean the other driver.

That must have been a traumatic thing to go through. Glad you and girlfriend are out of danger.

That dust on airbags makes them slippery so they can slide out of the torn plastic or fabric without tearing however these airbags often cause a lung reaction. Perhaps Autoliv can come up with a better design that's less allergenic.

I think they recovered from this, but I am still curious to know if they didn't end up with two 2005 XCs by Volvo -Fusion

I believe that one of them ended up with a straight 10 engine and the other with no engine and 2 transmissions.

This sounds like a typical scenario from those russian car crashes

You're thinking of Volvo age diffusion. It takes high age cars and low age cars and finds equilibrium at two middle aged Volvos. Swedish patent pending.

Volvo fusion of two XC's produces a V-10, twin turbo, AWD, 8-wheeled super wagon. Only one is known to exist and it has not been seen since it scurried out of Stockholm and made a bee line for the Arctic circle. Some say it's still up there, terrifying reindeer and driving intoxicated trolls home from the ice bar. It's actually cold fusion, I guess.

Volvo fission, though never observed in the wild, is theorized to produce two Volvo motorcycles. 2 wheel drive each. Inline 2.5 cylinder engines with half a turbo on each. Not terribly powerful, but it has the most comfortable seat ever put on a motorcycle.

True story.
