Just remove at caliper. If nut freezes, spin caliper off rather than breaking hard line.

Re: using Volvo originals is why I harvest decent looking calipers from upulls. The other aspect that abscate finesses is the frozen rear brake lines. Not only might the line itself seize on the nut, but at least on the right rears, the nut threads usually seize in the caliper. If you are able to get the brake line fitting/nut loosened, look at the threads; are they sharp and clean, or somewhat rounded? The last calipers I installed (almost brand new harvested off of a 94 850 so the nuts did come loose) I ran a tap into the threads and sure enough, the threads were rough, especially on the right rear one. I suspect that's why the line fitting on that one is usually extremely difficult to remove; they weren't cleanly bored.

Plus, the flex hose that crosses over the rear suspension arms can become constricted so pressure to the right rear can be less than spec and pressure that does get through can become trapped in the hose, so your caliper freezes up. What fun dragging a locked wheel around in winter.

I got disgusted fooling with these and just renewed the lines and the hose—well worth a couple of hours and less than $30.00 in parts. I'll never have a problem with those lines or fittings again. I didn't take pics. Maybe I'll snap a few to add to the writeup.

ThanksJim. Would add To the write up wel

Refelections on two year life of rebuilt caliper. The dust seal was I good condition and new fluid was bled through the system last time. I think the metal pistons i these rebuild are the Shinola cheap metal that cause the seizing.

Volvo caliper 18 years from ATE
Rebuilt ATE by Cardone, 2 years

Maybe the Centric will do better?

FYI the rebuild kit was not cheap, about$60 , and I don’t think I have a hone nor practice honing. I guess I’m hone deaf.

Parking brake shoes installation part 31262622. For 1998 1999 2000

First compare your new parts to old carefully. Just went through a bad part out of box. Lower cutouts were not deep enough to spec so shoes would not fit.

Clip shoes into the backing plate clips. Install the upper small spring to hold them. Leave office adjuster spreader for now

Now seat the shoes in the expander and install one end of spring in one show.

Use a large screwdriver coming down and using the wheel hub as a lever, stretch the spring to the hole on the rear shoe. Then pop it into the hole with finger pressure. Make sure it fully seats with a hammer and screwdriver and one light tap.

Now install the upper spreaders, it will fit without tools being needed

If all is right the brake shoes will lie approximately on the radius of the raised boss on the backing plate. If not, something isn’t right.
