You mentioned starting with cat 5 and then 30 ga wire wrap lead.
In my experience, those are both solid conductors. I missed the
aircraft grade. For moving wire, I prefer an SJOWA for dealing
with low temps, but for the ECT leads, it would be overkill.
Sounds like you've got a good handle on it, though.

I'd much rather deal with cool and dry! My R grew up in Washington
and has been in Fairbanks for the last decade or so. OEM wiring
apparently holds up a lot better in this environment.
Best of Luck in the Hot'n Muggy!

As far as OEM contacts and connector bodies, the hard part is either
finding an online side with parts pages that you can trust or tracking
down the elusive "parts guy with a clue that actually gives a damn"
at a dealer. Besides some good guys at Continental in Anchorage,
the last ones that I found were Jamie and Don back when Waltrip
was rocking the online dealer sales business 7 or 8 years back.
TASCA, maybe...?

Since I was reusing the female barrel connectors, they were already crimped. So I had to find a way to mechanically attach the stranded 18ga OR/WHT wire to the already crimped tab, prior to soldering. Both were held in place, one on top of the other, by the "helping hands" while I wrapped the fine 30ga. bare tinned wire perpendicular along the connections length. Much like whipping the end of a rope with a fine thread to prevent it from unraveling.

The CAT5 wire was too thick, thus the 30ga. Now with both tightly held together, I could solder the whole joint. As the connector had been cleaned & the WHT/OR & 30ga. wires were already tinned, they solder smoothly flowed over & into everything and the task was done in about a second.
