pic of ECT connector needed urgently

Post by muldersjoerd »

I am on holiday in France with my my mobile home and 940 (lpt, 1998, petrol and lpg). My car starts bad or not at all and the car has almost no power, especially in lower rpm. French garage could not find anything.

I suspect that my ECT is failing, especially because of the too rich fuel mix and everything else looking ok, and want to unplug the sensor to check if that improves anything.

However, because of the lpg injectors below the intake manifold, I cannot see the sensor. I know where it is, I can feel it amidst the jungle of hoses and cables, but I cannot in any way see how it is connected, let alone disconnect it. I have been wiggling and pulling for more than an hour but to no avail.
Should I press somewhere or lift something, is there a metal clamp? I have no clue.

It would help me immensely if somebody could give me a picture of the connection, or else explain verbosely how this connector is designed. I rather not want to remove the injectors (I am on holiday and if I break anything, I am in more trouble)

Thanks in advance!
Owned two Volvo 440's, currently a V70 T5 1997. Right now, I am considering buying a 940 on LPG.

Holiday in France huh? Sounds like a good time.

Now, let's get your car fixed. What is your engine displacement? That might make a difference in searching for images of the connector.

A Google image search for "volvo 940 ect sensor" shows these, among many others.

I haven't read the associated pages, one of which is here at MVS, so please take these images with a grain of salt. I haven't worked on any RWD Volvo, so this info isn't vetted.

Thanks for the images. It certainly helps altough I cannot easily figure out how I should disconnect it. If I was more certain that it is the ECT, I'd simply cut the cable.

It's a 2.3 liter engine btw. Today I'll try to get a clearer view by using a mirror or maybe my smartphone camera.

I did it! Turned out I had to press a metal clamp from below. Easy if you know what to do.

I'll open a new topic regarding my findings. Thanks for the cooperation!
