Have to disagree with Matthews list on one of the cars. MGB, worst so called 'sports' car ever sold. Piece of junk that was slower than my 65 122S, was unreliable and had poor fuel consumption. Other 3 are ok, but have to say I am with Jim on this one, if you want something comfortable and drives well for sunny days, this is a pretty good way to go in my opinion. Like I say, everyone is welcome to their opinion but they can be wrong! LoL!

Love the car Jim and good luck with selling it on. I hope it finds a good caring home!

Neil.

Oh goodness no I'm not suggesting those cars for reliability. Not in a thousand years. They're for fun. Weekend cars.

A 90s Miata would be on the list too. Or a 1970s full size Bronco.

I've been driving a faster version of that S70 for 16 years, and for a weekend car... a P80?... no, just no.

Nice car.

I'm gonna go ahead and dispute the idea of sending it to a museum. Every Volvo since ever has been designed and bred as a daily driver - look no further than Irv Gordon. An operational car displaced through time is always more impressive.

They are NOT garage queeens.

This one screams "road trip toy" to me. Nothing on the road before or since beats the comfort and thrill of a P80 GLT on a long ride.

Matthew, you can have any one of those four cars you like. I'll race you from the Florida Keys to the Aleutian Islands. We'll see who walks into the diner and who waddles.

Great car Jim.

I'll never own it but if I did, I'd drive it daily! Maybe give it a break in the winter.

If these cars are not exciting on this board and to the owner of this site....i don't know where they should be exciting.

Car which is in shape like this one JRL found, with that mileage, like it was frozen in time,is always exciting....at least to me.

Of course it's exciting. It's super rare with that mileage. I fully, wholly 100% agree. Great car. I'm not arguing this.

But we have the luxury of looking at it from far away. I'm talking about how things would be *owning* it. You, me, someone here writing a $6k or $7k or $8k check for it. (Those are my guesses on what JRL will ask. JRL, correct me if I'm wrong.)

What would you do with it? Daily driver or weekend car?

I don't think I could daily drive it. It's just too nice. I couldn't imagine a door ding in a parking lot, or a snowy-day accident.

That leaves it (for me) as a weekend car, which I've written about above.

You are wrong, keep on going ($$ up)! Remember I got over 10K for my (perfect but a 143K mile) V70T5M. Not original, but was what someone wanted.

As for a weekend car, for a P80 enthusiast, why not?
For a few bucks, it can be made to handle quite decently with just swaybars and stickier tires.
It can go significantly quicker with just a Hilton Green tune.
One can always add a stock, period 17" wheel like a Comet with 215/45/17s and still be "original".
I've had them all different ways and it's quite easy to make these a fun and a reasonably quick car to drive.

Remember by today's standards these do not weigh very much, about 3400 lbs or so when most current cars this size now weigh from 3800 to 4100 lbs!!!
That's a 60-70 hp gain right there!
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

A $10k S70.

Even more reason not to DD this car. So that leaves a weekend car, unless there's someone out there who would pay $10k and then drive this to work every day. Erik?

Or a dealer "halo" car to have in the showroom, like that pristine 240 we were talking about a couple months ago.

I don;t have space or interest to keep a show car. By definition if I'm owning it, I'm driving it. That car is made to be driven and enjoyed.

But yes, the $10k+ price will keep it safe from most of us who would drive the rarity out of it.
