What car do you have? Does it have EGR?
It's a 1997 850 T5. I'm ashamed to admit I don't know if it has egr. In searching for solutions yesterday, I stumbled upon a blocked egr causing similar symptoms, but by that time I had run out of light. I'm going back in a few hours to try again.
1997 T5 Major PCV Fail, pinched bracket, cam sensor wiring Topic is solved
Make sure the bracket that is underside of intake near the TB is not being pinched. If it is, it'll created a nice source to a vacuum leak... If you have not tweaked or cracked the manifold from the torquing unevenness.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be sure to check that as well. I really appreciate all the advice I'm receiving!

Post detail and clear pictures, post video in focus, post something that is other than your words. You're obviously missing something and your brain doesn't realized it as an issue while many of us might.
Is it a Turbo or N/A ? Did you hook the MAF sensor back up?

It is a Turbo and I did remember to reconnect the MAF. I will be leaving to try again shortly, I will take video and have something more clinical to post this afternoon. I'm sure I am missing something...my brain is fried at this point.

I did the PCV mod 4 years ago on my 1998 S70 GLT and so far so good 4 years later.
I used the 5/8-inch hose for venting purpose, detail below. Your T5 is very similar.

Given the age, check the wiring insulation on both the crank position sensor & the camshaft position sensor. They may be badly cracked by now and possibly shorted together. These two cables can easily be abused when digging around in that area while routing the two tubes going from the PTC to the oil sep. box. Check the connectors as well to ensure they're still intact. They live a hard, hot life due to their location.T5 Tony wrote:My 850 cranks and turns over, then the rpms shoot to 3500 and she sputters and dies. Won't hold an idle for anything.
Both signals are VITAL for the Motronic engine control system to know "where the engine is" so to speak. Without them, the MEC is "lost in space" and your motor won't run right.
Also check the ECT sensor wiring and connector.
You could also have a major vacuum leak with the intake manifold not being properly seated, bolted and torqued down. Use a hand-held mirror and a BRIGHT light to look at it from the bottom up.

I just got home from a 30 mile drive from my parents' house. Success! I really want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone for their advice and wisdom. Sleddriver, you were right on the money concerning the camshaft position sensor's connection. It literally crumbled in my hand and I spent a good 20 minutes digging the remainder out of the female end. Lee, thank you for pointing out the bracket was designed to hold the hoses in place. I could've sworn it was BEHIND the manifold...obviously attention to detail is not my strong suit. Once I'd replaced the cam sensor, I was working in the dark so I just removed it altogether instead of repositioning it. But now I am so energized, it is top on my do list tomorrow.
Again, thanks to everyone and may I just say the MVS community is awesome!!!

RSPI, that bracket was the very issue I had...honestly I should have watched your video first. Smh..., I will be sure to check your channel first from here on out. I also want to say my wife and I are huge fans, you've helped us get her V70 estate running and looking good. Don't stop what you're doing, you are a huge asset to those of us on a budget!
