Thanks guys. I think I will try to remove radiator sandwich through bottom while leaving fan in if I can. Getting to the clamp under the manifold to get that solid hose loose seems like a real bear and chance for me to mess up vacuum attachments. That large intercooler hose in Robert's video is soft and has a bit different route - '98 T5?
So I have the XC on ramps, drained coolant, ATF, and oil. oil goes back in. planning on putting ATF back in. When I reassemble rad, I want to give the coolant lines a flush. Should I do that semi-quick, shut the car back off, do proper coolant fill, THEN warm car back up and run through P,R,N,D,3 a few times? Is it ok that have the car running for awhile with new ATF and not cycling through gears?

Can someone please confirm a P/N for me? I am trying to replace that upper intercooler hose and I am coming up with 9161092. but FCP doesn't even sell this? I honestly only found a URO product on Amazon. seems a bit odd

I remove the whole fan assembly out the top, but it requires a little 'force' to do so. I loosen the hose clamp on the ETM a little, which is enough to rotate the plastic intake tube back toward the engine enough to lift the fan assembly out the top. Dropping out the bottom is also a good option, but as I don't have a hoist I find it a challenge. I remove the radiator out the bottom though, but use a floor jack with a piece of wood on top to balance the 'sandwich' to allow dis-assembly and support the intercooler and condenser. Don't be surprised to find the 2 metal supports have become detached from the intercooler. I re-attached using JB wed steel glue and drilling a few small hole in the support panel sides to attach using wide head metal screws through the slots in the edge of the intercooler.
Soak the radiator mounting bolts for a couple of days with PB Blaster or like before trying to remove the bolts.
Neil.

Most will caution you to avoid URO hoses like the plague. I myself had some of their power steering hoses fail after way too few miles. That being said, because it's an intercooler hose (nothing critical) I'd feel more comfortable going aftermarket. Anything that carries a fluid though, stick with genuine. If you plan on keeping the car a while, just get the better hose. The original lasted this long right?

Ok folks, making some headway...slowly. Got the clamp on the intercooler hose loosened near the ETM to move and pull fan. Actually whole intercooler hose came off, should be fun to get back on.
2 main questions. on a 2000 XC, where is the coolant drain plug on the engine block? Have not been able to locate that, I suppose it's not critical
The A/C condenser, when I unbolt the rad and intercooler and drop through the bottom, will the A/C condenser support itself and just hang there? I don't want to put strain on the hard lines. From Robert's video, the corners pop off the bottom and the rad should release down. Any caveats?

You can support the condenser for the AC on a couple of axle stands or use a floor jack with a piece of wood on it to balance the load.
Part # for the intercooler hose is: 9161092.
You can always buy from a dealer or FCP may sometimes add the part for you if you ask.

There are also a crap load of aftermarket suppliers of Silicon hoses. Can't suggest any brands as I have not used them.

I am quite close to being able to put a green check on the radiator replacement and possibly clearing those codes, more importantly, running with a properly functioning radiator.
I am about to button up the system and of course I bust the green A/T cooling hose clip. But Alas! I had a new one sitting around from the '04 V70.
I do want to replace the o rings now. I have a P/N of 3537503 Can anyone provide specs on these so I can buy them at a local store? 13mm; R12 or R134a? is that enough info to just buy a 13mm o ring at the hardware shop?
So close....

Found this post and my V70 XC 2000 (230k miles) now has this P0743 P1618 code quite often.
After reset it will come back after 20 to 30 miles drive. Seems it comes up more often in warm days, and on freeway.
Had radiator and hoses replaced last year. Today I got transmission fluid replaced. But on my way back this still shows up on freeway.
What can I do? So it will not last long and burn the transmission some day? I wouldn't spend the money on transmission rebuilt or replaced. Maybe my only choice is to avoid long trips and use it as backup car only.
