12.2 volts is a deeply discharged battery, down to its last 20% of charge.
Can you put it on a charger for a day?
In the fine country ofCanada , batteries over 5 years old are at end of life.

I could do this - borrowed an ancient car charger from a colleague. He says it works. Think it's worth a go?
Do I disconnect the battery to do this? What setting would you put it on - 12V 2 A or 12 V 10 A?

I'd disconnect the battery (leave in car if you want to not lift it out) and cycle it from 10a & 2a setting every hour for eight hours keeping an eye on it for excessive heat. It should not be cooking hot and a pronounced sulfur smell (rotten eggs) shouldn't emit during this process.

Thanks for all the tips guys.
I pulled the battery and charged it for about 7 hours today, cycling between 2 and 10 amps as @beigg suggests.
Put battery back in. Alarm sounded for about 3 minutes despite locking and unlocking doors with FOB but checked itself after a little time with the engine on.
Battery was reading ~ 12.5 v. Drove 25 km, reading 12.4v. Drove another 25 with radio loud and heat on high - 12.3v (may have had cabin lights on for these tests) Drove 2 minutes home - 12.55v with only trunk cab light on- 14.4v with car running.
AND Check engine light gone right when I replaced the battery.
Don't want to say I'm out of the woods yet, but 55 clicks with no CEL yet. Fingers crossed!
