I had a sometimes rough idle at start on my 2008 Volvo S60, I changed my 3 year old battery even though it cranked good with all aspects of a good battery. There was no further problem for at least a month, then the same things reappeared. Thinking of a poor electrical connection I took all cables off the positive electrical and used steel wool to polish the connections and tightened them down at the battery. There are 6 ground connections in groups of 3, on each top of the fender well: [10mm] I took these off and polished the exposed metal and because the electricity goes thru the bolt for connection polished the threads and bolt head. The intended metal connection had been painter over at the factory. Anyway this works for now.

My rough idle on my 2008 Volvo was caused by a poor electrical connection for the positive at the battery post. The connecting wire was hung up making a poor seat for the battery post. This was hardly noticeable but dropped the sensor voltage at idle, which caused this and would get worse. Eventually i would have to take the negative connection off the battery long enough so it reset the cars computer then it would run OK for about 250 miles.
