Misha I don't have a CEL light on, but on my way home today the car did it again but this time I was prepared. When it stalled and would start, I jumped the Fuel pump relay nothing. So I checked the connector on the crank sensor It was showing little to no resistance at first. I checked it a couple minutes later and it was at 395ohm so I plugged out back in and the car started. Fairly confident I've got it down. Vovlo should have it in the morning I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks for all the ideas so far everyone!

Here is a video by Robert (aka "rspi") if you need the procedure for CRANK sensor.
Next time, order from rmeuropean dot com and get the VDO Siemens brand, which is OEM, for $46.

Cn90, thanks I already found Robert's video, his video library has saved me more than once! If it wasn't my only car right now and didn't need it asap I would have looked into more options for purchase. Getting it for 75 from my local dealer. Parts store had non name today for $60 but for sensors I try to stay oem if possible.

You are correct, for sensors such as CPS etc. stick to Volvo OEM or Siemens VDO.
Aftermarket is such a headache and can get you stranded in the middle of nowhere.
For $75, it is not a bad price at all, especially from dealer!

Now, I wonder if I should replace my CRANK sensor on a preventive basis as I hate being stranded far away from home.
Car is 1998 S70 GLT with 185K and runs fine.

Mine are untouched and original from 96 over 230k, and I have wondered myself, if this falls in the preventative replacement category. I'm sure RSPI would say no!

Update on my way to dealer this morning to get part it stumbled a few times on the way and threw a misfire code. It did die once to my parents house around the corner, didn't want to push my luck with a 20 mi drive home. Let it run after installing there in the driveway 15-20 min all seemed well. Left got about1/4 down the street it died again. Let it sit a few minutes it started and got it back to my parents. I went back and reviewed the jumper wire for the fuel pump relay end realized the first time around I read it wrong. I installed a paperclip from 15 to the "right" 87 pin and it ran like a champ all the way home no problem, which I haven't been able to do all weekend. Another dealer a bit closer had the relay, I put it in and so far so good. That said after installing the crank sensor It did seem to run even smoother than it did before so still May have been a good thing to change. I'll keep you guys posted if anything changes.

Nice, the Swedes are kind. Lots of warning symptoms. Not so much with Audi. Two consecutive hard starts in the morning, with just a hint of faltering on takeoff, and day # 3 you are stranded with a failed fuel delivery problem (Almost always the pump). Maybe you only get a barely perceptible falter before it quits. I am so tuned in to this. Hopefully you have it now. Don't forget the long range feedback, please! Looking good.

Early update, after the new relay yesterday took her out for errands yesterday and today. Yesterday was still above 90f (the temps that it was giving me the most trouble) and all was good. Ran great today as well all be it much cooler today. Misha, I was going to pick up a fuel injection system relay as peace of mind, it appears as least my 98xc doesn't have it. I look by the cooling fan relay on the radiator and a blank spot in the plastic where it would have been, not sure off there is another know spot for it to be? While it May Not have been the cause of my stalling issue, she does seem to run a but better and smoother after replacing the crank sensor, we'll see if it had any difference on millage. I can't see that the fuel pump relay would have made a difference there. I will update again later if anything changes and let you know if changing the sensor actually makes a difference or was just a placebo effect.
