1999 S70 5-speed to 6-speed conversion?

Thanks for your replies, all of you. I'm not going to do it,I guess. The car has 258,000 miles on it, looks,drives,feels new,I do all my own work, but this may be a bit too much. I've started iffy projects like this before, and I hate more than anything to find out in the middle of one of them that it's not doable after all.

In the spirit of expanding our aggregate knowledge, why not got ahead and check if it's plausible from the specs. Stranger things have happened here, no stranger would it be.

Over on Volvospeed, a radical DIYer put an AWD M66 in a 99 or 2000 V70R, so if the AWD will work, a normal FWD would. Shift Linkage and some small mount related bits should be all that are required. The location for axles was the same as I recall, otherwise that would kill it.

Old thread , but first time Ive seen a reference to another make using the Borg Warner M56/66 manual gearbox...

The fact that Ford also utilized the M66 box in it’s Ford Focus XR5’s, also known as Focus ST225 outside of Aus, adds to the availability of boxes and associated parts. For example, the Mfactory LSD intended for install in this upgrade is not found anywhere listed for Volvo vehicles, only Ford Focus.
