Do you think another flush would be beneficial?

Did you do a Flush or a Drain and Fill? Flushing a transmission with a unknown history is risky. You could end up clogging the channels if there is too much crud in the transmission. If you did a Drain and Fill what did the fluid look and feel like?

I did the Gibbons method, and the fluid was brownish/blackish and looked like motor oil. Unfortunately at the time I didnt pay close attention to how it felt or smelled. First time doing this job, so I was more focused on doing it correctly! LOL

The Gibbons method is a drain and fill procedure to get all the old fluid out. It does not use any solvents or pressurized fluid injection.

Light brown to dark brown is just dirty. True black would be burnt. What color is the fluid now and how many miles does it have on it?

The car has 165,000 on it. Its only been driven 35-40 miles since I drained the fluid. The color on the dipstick is about the same color as the new fluid.

If it stays clean don't waste any time and money on another drain and fill. Keep an eye on it if it does not go brown quickly you might consider a power flush after a couple of thousand miles. But first we got to figure out how to get you that far.

165,000 is just getting broken in. I have 230,000 and 285,000 on mine.

"You need a new transmission" fraudsters love to say that because there are a lot fewer people that know transmissions then there are people that know the rest of the car, including mechanics. You might want a second option from a transmission shop, them guys got to be better then just replace it.

If they did not try updating the transmission software revision, don't trust anything they say. Older software revisions are known to cause the problems your having. Seek out a different shop that can do the software upgrade.

Get a second option because, in the US automotive repair industry, you got a 50/50 chance of getting ripped due to incompetence or fraud.
Rick, that's horribly cynical. It's at least 53/47 in your favour.

It would be nice if I was just being cynical.

In the U.S. it not cynical, it is proven fact. There have been several investigations where they sent out top notch mechanics who would fake or create problems. Then take them to repair shops to see what would happen. 50% of the time they got a incorrect diagnostic and "repair" due to incompetence or fraud.

"You need a new transmission" is one fraud. They caught quite a number of shops removing and reinstalling a perfectly good transmission.

My advice to people in the US who do not do their own maintenance or repairs is, find a good honest shop, then take all your work to them. Do not run around chasing bargains. One incompetence or fraud will easily wipe out anything you save by chasing bargains many times over.

I brought the car into the transmission shop. Told him whats going on. He said the transmission is gone. The fwd and reverse clutch plates are welded together. I watched a youtube video by Automatic Transmission, Hiram, and in the comments section, someone asked about the no reverse and be able to drive in neutral. Hiram told the guy that plates were welded together.

The transmission shop said they have seen this over and over again. He suggested to look online and try to find a low mileage used one and cross my fingers!!

I did ask about the valve body, solenoids, b4 cover and he said it would not fix my problem.

Too bad your in Maine. At LKQ Pick your Part in Kansas, the transmission would cost $116.60, $30.00 core.
There is a Pick-in-Pull in Johnston, RI with a 01 C70. Same prices, $120, $30 core.
