No clue. I don't believe I have the equipment to even find that out for you. The only things i can say are that it still cranks, and I have gotten it to start twice for about five or six seconds before it shuts back off

What did your temp gauge read when the motor was losing power? What is the condition of the big PCV hose on top of your motor?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

It’s worth checking compression to,make sure you aren’t scrapping a decent ride. There are good used engines out there for $500, too

I'm gonna change what i said because it came off rude and I didn't mean it to. I absolutely believe if you don't have the tools or skills to work on a car (or are unwilling to buy the tools or learn), take it to a mechanic. However, here's why that's a little different here:

Nevertheless, the car starts, shifts, and drives currently. So based on my knowledge of what happens when you throw a rod, it's probably not that

That'll probably happen. This is probably going to turn into a project vehicle. I'll spend some time and a few bucks working on figuring out if it's worth fixing, and either fix it or dump it.
As an added update, I recharged the battery (that thing is due, but I'm not dropping $150 on a new one until I'm sure it's worth it) and the thing started, shifted, and drove. It sounds like hell - loud ass ticking noise coming from roughly the top middle of the engine. My thought is lifters because that's pretty common apparently, it's just kind of weird that all of this would've happened and that's all that's wrong.

I should rephrase. I ain't swapping. Lol. I just plain don't have the time, money, or equipment to do an engine swap. But I'll test the compressions and whatnot. Rework the PCV again, and see if I can deal with the ticking noise. If I can, I'll have to decide if I'm keeping it or dumping it. If I can't, I can at least say it runs when I dump it.

> Driving it hard (okay, I abused it for a moment or two lol) and it dump all the oil in it out of the oil cap, then stalled
> Restarted two days later after I recharged the battery (I'm gonna wait until I get more out - I had just run out and was planning on scrapping so I didn't purchase more yet), shifted, and drove at least enough to get it out of my garage (I don't have a lot of oil in it so I didn't want to take it anywhere)

I'm gonna add more oil then see what happens. I've read sometimes the Lucas oil additive works wonders.

Borrow a compression tester NOW as suggested, check out a few of RSPI videos on Youtube, and see what you have BEFORE you do anything more. Otherwise, you will be tossing good money and lots of time, after bad. What I learned early on working on these cars is to eliminate worst case possibilities first so you can make your best decisions after that. If compression is crap, sounds like with your time and financial limitations you can be done...or not, if you want a bigger project! At least you'll know. Report all findings here!
