Sounds like a good plan.
The AWD have a different layout of engine mounts in the rear as you have found. They have the same positions for the front hydraulic cone mount, the crank pulley mount, lower torque rod and upper torque rod. However, they do not have the rear hydraulic cone mount due to the angle gear. Instead they have a mount on the LHS near the top of the transmission near the inner fender and set toward the back of the trans. It is the one with the long rod you mention. Other than that there is a rubber bump stop/limiter to the right of the angle gear above the sub-frame.
If you have a good axle re-builder locally that is a god-send.
Check the RH axle carrier bearing when the axle is out. I have had 2 of those go bad. Volvo does not list the bearing as a replacement item but it can be replaced with the bearing from a 98 that is still listed.
