I am a gelopy kind of guy, I'm ok with ( they don't make that any more) but yeah we make it and you can't have it without a months worth of salary. That's the bs

This thread seems to have some reinventing of a wheel - go to one of the trusted reman shops like Colorado driveshaft, you can get these shafts rebuilt reasonably. Do a search on this site there is a wealth of expertise, very common for people to go that route.

If you stay with cheaper brand car, the parts will be cheap. Volvo is a premium brand car, and Volvo parts will:
fit right
last forever
are expensive
BMW is much,much worse.
Both of these brands' owners have done a pretty good job of keeping bad parts makers out of business, though. Not so true on many other makes.

So it's ok for a shaft shop to purchase the part, but I can't, that's crap, and even worse, they install the same joint with the same shims.
So you spend 800, I'll spend 50

You can buy UJd standalone from the same place the axle guys get them from - I did this with my BMW driveshaft. You do need to press some of these out with tools that arent economical to buy once, though.
Most people don't know how to balance the shaft when done, either - from lack of tools and knowledge

If you put all the parts back where they came from you don't have to re balance it. I've built hundreds of shafts I'm my back yard, one of them sees over 160 mph for hours at a time, no vibration, no problems, and no balance. This isn't as hard as you make it out to be. I will make the parts available for those who are willing to try. It's the same process as a Chevy pickup, or old muscle car, just draw a line down the shaft, and line it back up exactly when finishedabscate wrote: ↑20 Mar 2018, 10:09 You can buy UJd standalone from the same place the axle guys get them from - I did this with my BMW driveshaft. That puts you hundreds of rebuilds ahead of almost anyone else reading here, well done! Like Yarddog, I agree with abscate's point: as long as you know how to do it, three cheers for DIY.Yarddogperformance wrote: ↑20 Mar 2018, 10:52 ... I've built hundreds of shafts I'm my back yard ...

The people who sell the parts to the driveshaft shop will sell you the same part - at the same price if you buy the same quantity, no conspiracy there.

That's what I thought, so I called my buddy at co. Driveshaft and asked him what he does, he told me that sometimes they machine the yokes, sometimes they can get custom joints made. Neither of witch I can find available, however I did find a suitable candidate for this, and it's on .047 of an inch off. Some shims and 4 o rings man, and I'd give the part number but I want to test it on my car first. So no one else get harmed if I'm wrong

There are tons of You tubes on this, putting in a generic U joint and clearancing the yoke for the new part
Most don’t balance back to within 7 g cm, they just machine it to “keep it even”
I’m on the risk taker side but I wouldn’t risk a Haldex AWD with an unbalanced shaft over just swapping in a used good shaft from Erie or a new/rebuilt one from Colorado. A lot less labor too. I use a generic $25 an hour to value my time spent wrenching, as long as it’s not wrenching hell.
As you pointed out in post 1, the real value here would be to find who makes these joints for Volvo, source them , by them, press hold out, and even spot weld them back in rather than swage.
