On my T5 it was like getting a colonoscopy with a rusty wire brush. I vaguely remember having to turn one of the M6 bolts in 1/32 increments, clearance was really tight. The water pipe was in the way.

It is weird behavior, as I would have thought it would be the same in all gears. This is honestly really bizarre. Not really sure where to go from here.
My understanding is the ECU limits boost in first and probably in second to protect the transmission from excessive torque, including manuals.
