- Actually, if you want to do it the ghetto way, then remove the chip from the existing key and tape it near the ignition switch (info in forum).

- I don't know about S60 etc. but when I needed a key for my 1998 S70, the key only cost $6 using a specific Volvo PN of 9447946 for the key. So I wonder if one can order the S60 key online (I did it for my 1998 S70), supplying the dealer the VIN, then one can have the blank key cut for $6?

Mine is laser cut, regular key cutters can't do it. $90 here at the dealer.

I purchased the Valet key from https://www.myswedishparts.com/2001-2009/ which was recommended on this forum. It arrives pre-cut based on your VIN (shipping address must match the address on file with the DMV). Cost was $72. It still requires a trip to a dealer / mechanic with VIDA software to match chip to car. I think that was $100. Not cheap but more cost effective than a remote (which I find too bulky in my pockets).

- The 1998 S70 P80 key is also laser cut ($6), the only difference between P80 1998 S70 and P2 S60/V70 key is in the chip, which itself drives the price way up.

- If you hold a 1998 S70 key next to a S60 key, they are both laser-cut and appear physically similar (except for different cuts).
